Accessibility
It is vital that churches enable access and encourage full participation of all people, including those with disabilities. We are used to welcoming people with a wide variety of needs and we understand the particular challenges for those living with dementia and their carers. We seek to improve our access provision in fulfilment of our belief and vision. If you find that access issues exclude you from our activities, then please let us know as we’d be pleased to hear from you so that we can respond.
Access at ST. CHARALAMBOS CHURCH
Outside the Church:
Ramp Access is available;
There is a disabled toilet in a separate buliding, to the right of the church, through the iron gate;
Entrance to the church is via the main door which opens outwards-you need to turn the handle to the right.
Inside the Church:
Please advise the Church Wardens if you need help receiving Holy Communion or a Blessing;
There is not level access throughout the building, the front chancel area is only accessible via steps. Please ask a Church Warden if you would like Communion to be brought to worshippers in their seats or chair;
Our church has fixed pews; so, wheelchair users are welcome to place their chair in any space in which they feel comfortable, taking into consideration that both the main and the southern aisle are used during the services for the entrance processions or censing. We are considering how to make better space available for wheelchairs, please send us any comments/suggestions by email;
If you or a member of your family has a learning difficulty or special needs which makes access to our church or worship difficult please get in touch with Fr David to see if we can help. Fr David has worked for several years with adults who have learning difficulties and is suitably trained.
A note for our visitors:
Discriminating against disabled people is downright illegal and absolutely contrary to Christianity. If the presence of disable worshippers makes you feel uncomfortable, then you ought to rexamine your understanding of the basic beliefs of your faith!
