CONFESSIONS

Confession is a second Baptism cleansing the stains on our souls and restoring our relations with God. It is good for every Orthodox Christian to have a confessor/spiritual father, who could be the local parish priest, whom he or she visits for confession and spiritual guidance.

Confession is not simply a matter of making a list of wrongdoings and receiving 'absolution'. The more correct Orthodox term for confession is ‘Repentance’ (Metanoia). We do not only confess what we have done wrong, we feel contrition for what we have done wrong, and we seek spiritual council in order to overcome our sins and passions. Therefore, each confession should be preceded by reflection and contrition.

How often a Christian confesses depends on the conscience of the believer, but regular confession is especially beneficial.

Fr David was licensed as a pnevmatikos (spiritual father), [i.e. received the authorisation to hear confessions] on Sunday 30 April 2023.  The ceremony was performed by His Grace Bishop Maximos of Melitene, following the approval of His Eminence Archbishop Nikitas of  Thyateira. Fr David can hear confessions in Greek, English, French, Bulgarian [and some other slavic languages] and Romanian. Those wishing to make their confession to him  are kindly requested to contact him either directly or to speak to a member of the Church Committee.

Fr. Nicholas Kokkinos, our former priest in charge, is also a "pnevmatikos" (spiritual father), i.e. authorised to hear confessions. Those who wish to make their confession to him  are kindly requested to contact him either directly or via Fr David. Fr Nicholas can hear confessions in Greek and English.
